Thin Hair? These Bad Habits Can Make Your Hair Thinner

Thinning hair is a problem that many face at some point in their lives, though -- as long as it is not a genetic problem or related to illnesses -- much of the thinning can be avoided simply by changing a few habits that can contribute to thinning hair. Today, we will discuss some bad habits that you should avoid if your want to reduce the thinning of your hair.

Not Washing Your Hair As Often As You Should

While this isn't often a problem for many in modern times, there are many women and men that skip days of washing hair in an attempt to not wash out essential oils that build up in the hair. While it is true that washing your hair every single day is not necessarily healthy for hair, the trick is to find the happy medium. Washing your hair only every other day is a good practice, but it is essential to recognize when your hair needs to be washed, and not just stick to the every other day schedule.

There are many factors such as weather and the temperature that will make your hair dirtier or greasier on some days. Just as the weather doesn't stick to a preplanned schedule, neither should you when it comes to hair washing. It is okay to skip a day every once in a while, but you really should inspect your hair, and if it is overly greasy, the best thing for your hair is to give it a wash and move that "skip day" to a time when your hair is naturally doing a good job at staying clean and not too greasy.

Wearing Your Hair Tight Up or In Tight Hair Styles

While this may seem a bit obvious, those of us with long hair know that it is much easier to keep hair tied up when busy doing things around the house, cleaning, and especially when cooking. The key to this habit is to keep the time that your hair spends in a tight wrap to a minimum, and taking it down to "let it breathe" once in a while. If you wear your hair tied up during the day, take it down every few hours and lightly stroke the hair from scalp to tips.

Being Rough With Wet Hair

This is especially common with those that are working 9-5 jobs. When you jump out of the shower in the morning, you are probably going to be in a rush to get ready, do your makeup, get your coffee, etc. -- this is no excuse for mishandling your hair. Stop, take a breath, and make sure you are not roughly brushing the kinks in your hair out. This is especially important if you take very hot showers, as the heat from the shower will open the skin more where the hair follicle meets the scalp -- essentially loosening hair.

These are just a few tips to keep in mind, if you want to try and control your thinning hair and not see handfuls of hair coming out every time you go to brush it. Check back with us often and we will have even more tips to avoid thinning hair.
